Does anyone own Wealth of Nations (BGG_ID 32666)? I am thinking of buying it but would love to try it out sometime first. -- Eric --

Hi Eric, I played a 3-player game of it this past weekend. It's a good game, but I don't know how much I enjoyed the experience. It's fairly easy to learn, but it's definitely a hard-core economics game, and an early mistake can be costly and hard to recover from. I don't recall making any moves I considered a mistake, but I definitely made some sub-optimal moves that cost me over the long run. While I'm sure experience would help me avoid those in the future, I don't know how much of a chance I'd get to gain that experience. As it stands, I'd probably play it again, but not too often and not too soon. Hope that helps some! -- joe

Joe, thanks for the information. Were you playing with your own copy or someone else's? If not, do you know how many times the owner had played it? Did you think the owner enjoyed it?

He had played 2 solo games beforehand (one with 4 "players", one with 5). Though I'm sure the solo play helped some, he's also a much better gamer; in any event, he creamed me and merely clobbered the second place guy (I think). I know he enjoyed it and to be fair, I didn't hate my experience. Also, forgot to mention playing time: roughly 2-2.5 hours. We played such that any negotiations made between players were at the suggested fair market value, with the only real haggling occurring when trying to decide whether to round up or down, and once or twice there was a small bidding war for the goods being offered. In all, though, we probably spent less than 10 minutes haggling, which undoubtedly contributed to the relatively short playing time.
