    Calling all Grognards!

Okay its been long enough. We are long overdue for a day of one game with lots of dice rolling and no bidding, tile drawing, meeples or a scoring track around the board. I'm thinking of meeting Saturday, Sept. 6 at 12 noon or 1:00 depending on the host. Speaking of which, I have moved and where I am now is not really condusive to hosting a game. So, could anyone who is interested volunteer their home?:-D There are two games that I would like to throw out as suggestions because they have been specifically mentioned when talking to some about the next Grognards day. Those two games are Axis and Allies (2004) and Conquest of the Empire (2005). The good news is I have both of these games and I even have the original 1984 version of CotE. The bad news is I have never played either so I am not able to teach them. But of course don't let that stop us from playing one of them. So, who's in?!

I'm in!  Both of those sound good to me (since it was probably me who suggested them to you anyway.)

I'm contemplating giving CotE a try at 5th Saturday but it'll depend on what else might be going on and who else might be interested.

If nothing else we could just play one of the 2-player A&A games.  I'm leaning towards playing at Game Parlor in Chantilly.  It's a 1st Saturday WGA meet so we may be able to recruit some other folks I know but don't have contact info for since there doesn't seem to be much interest here.

Alternatively, Gretchen has offered to let us play at her place in Centreville (although she's not interested in actually playing.)

Okay, I'm up for either of those options. I can bring both of the A&A games if you want. I got the D-Day version in a trade just to get rid of something in my collection I didn't want, so its a “bonus“. And after looking through the rules for CotE I'd only be interested in playing the basic version. Or at least do some “tweaking” to the rules for the bidding for turn order part of the advanced rules.

If we can shift this so it doesn't conflict with Tucker and Emily's housewarming, I'd love to join and would be willing to host as well.

Yayyyy! A potential third person! I could go for that. Are you talking about shifting to another day, or making the time early enough on the 6th to be able to head over to Tucker and Emily's afterwards?

Oh, hunh.  I had been thinking of moving it to another day, but if the housewarming is in the evening, making the time early enough would work quite well.

Okay, I think Rick and I are going to get together Saturday PM anyway to struggle through learning some version of one of the Axis and Allies games. And then crash the party later. But we can still arrange for another day of Grognards gaming. We might even have better luck getting 1 or two more players. What day(s) look(s) good to you?

I'm fairly flexible.  I plan on meeting Kaarin at the Bauer Drive CC Sat 9/6 a.m. to scope out the space for CoG in the morning (I think that's around 10am but will need to confirm with Kaarin).  That should take too long.

I was figuring Mark and I would get together after that some time around lunch time although we have not yet determined a venue.

I'm sorta looking forward to playing one of the Axis & Allies games (either the new release of the original game or D-Day or Europe.)  If it turns out that we all meet on Sunday 9/7 instead of Saturday and we get 4 people playing that would certainly be preferable to just a 2-player game.  If by “postponing” we're talking weeks later instead of days later then I'm leaning toward still getting together with Mark for Grognards this Saturday and we can certainly schedule another one soon that could include Michelle and/or Jeff who have also expressed interest.

I'm hoping we can do both. Let's plan to play an A&A game this Saturdy after looking at the site fro CoG. I would be interested in joining you (Rick) and Kaarin for that, but I'd like to carpool if possible. I can meet up in McLean/Tysons somewhere and ride with one of you guys. Then I could meet up on Sunday as well, but I can't make it until 1:00 at the earliest depending on where we meet.
