When I made this soup at the beach, Emily asked me to post the recipe on the ABG site. So here it is, as tangentially related to gaming as it can possibly be!
One pound of mild sausage (I use Jamestown brand)
One medium onion
Several garlic cloves (the more the merrier)
16 oz. can of crushed tomatoes
1 bag of lentils (it's a 1 lb bag, I think)
Marjoram (a spice)
Salt
Soak the lentils in water in advance, 30 min. or more (at the beach I did it overnight). Pour the remaining water out through a strainer (this cleans the beans too). Brown the sausage, breaking it into small chunks with a wooden spoon in the process. Remove the sausage from heat. Chop the onion coarsely, and mince the garlic. Saute onions and garlic together in the soup pot (I do this in the sausage grease) until the onions are a bit translucent and the garlic browned. Add a little water so they don't burn while you add the other ingredients. Then add the lentils, the tomatoes, and the sausage. Then more water until the soup pot (assuming an 8-quart pot) is a little below half-full. Cover and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 45 min. Add the marjoram when it gets hot, and the salt--both to taste.
I doubled the recipe at the beach.
